Introduction

People are not poor, rather poverty is an experience that anyone can face. Poverty denies people the resources and opportunities they need to fully participate in all aspects of personal and community life.

As part of a vision to make qathet a region where everyone thrives, the City of Powell River, qathet Regional District, and the Tla’amin Nation developed a strategy in 2021 to end poverty in our region. The strategy built on a 2019 report to understand the landscape of poverty in qathet region. These efforts were aided with invaluable assistance from Lift Community Services, Vancouver Coastal Health, First Credit Union, and many local organizations and citizens.
