The Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Committee is a Council Select Committee.

The mandate of the committee is to support and assist Council’s efforts with local climate change challenges, opportunities, and adaptation, as well as advance ways to mitigate the City of Powell River’s corporate and community greenhouse gas emissions.

The City’s initiatives were recognized in 2020 with the Community Energy Association Award for our Corporate Climate Action Strategy: Climate Action in a Small Coastal Town.

Our recent sustainability initiatives include:

  • Recreation complex LED lighting retrofit

  • Recreation complex heating system upgrade
