I have lived in Powell River since 1958-with two exceptions. I lived in Vernon B.C. for 10 years and Lacombe Alberta for 4 years. I am Powell River educated and most of my work history is in Powell River. I have worked as a Brush Picker, Log Salvager, sales Clerk, Night Auditor, Shop Steward, Shop Chair, Contract Negotiator, Office Manager for several Businesses, WCB advocate. EI advocate, Bookkeeper and many more Jobs. I have a certificate in Business Management, Certified through Pacific Rim Tourism as a front office agent and Auditor, I work well alone eras part of a team, have common sense and am able to make responsible decisions, and take responsibility for my words and actions. I believe that a solid education is the door to success regardless of any outside circumstances.

I have experience as both an employee and as a trustee. I understand the day-to-day challenges in the classroom as well as the legal, financial and analytical considerations that contribute to decision making.
I am an active member in our community who is approachable, receptive to diverse perspectives and kind to all folks.
I have built meaningful relationships with the broader community, and particularly in education, that provide me with insights on how to improve outcomes so that all students achieve success.
I see opportunities for growth in education, and I have ideas on how we can improve and evolve to ensure students are equipped with the skills they need to be successful in today’s world.

For School Trustee
As a parent and community member, I'm running for school trustee because I believe every student in SD47 deserves to learn in an environment where they feel safe, supported, and heard. Safety isn't just physical security in our schools — it's also the sense of belonging and stability that lets kids focus on learning rather than worrying. Equally important to me is accountability. Parents, students, and taxpayers deserve a board that communicates clearly, makes decisions transparently, and follows through on its commitments. I want to bring a practical, results-focused approach to the board table, one that asks hard questions, tracks outcomes, and puts the interests of students ahead of politics or process for its own sake. If elected, I will work to ensure that safety and accountability aren't just values we talk about, but standards we hold ourselves to in every decision the district makes.

I am proud to call Powell River and the qathet region home for the past 15 years.
My background includes more than 30 years of experience in leadership, management, small business ownership, housing and community service. I currently work with the Tla'amin Nation and serve on the Board of Directors of the Powell River Food Bank. These experiences have strengthened my ability to listen, work collaboratively, solve problems, and advocate for people with diverse needs.
If elected, I will bring a practical, thoughtful, and community-minded approach to the School Board. I believe our schools are strongest when students, families, educators, Indigenous partners, and the broader community feel heard and respected. My priorities are student well-being and success, responsible decision-making, strong communication, and ensuring our schools continue to provide welcoming, supportive environments where every student can thrive.

Mason, Maureen
For School Trustee
Over the course of my professional life I have worked in public education, government and business building collaborative communities and organizations.
I have held several leadership positions in public education including District Coordinator for Severe Behaviour/Mental Health, Director of Social Responsibility and Special Education Department Head in a large lower mainland school district. While these opportunities have allowed me to see issues of teaching and learning from inside the system, it is my work with the Ministry of Education, the British Columbia Teachers Federation and Simon Fraser University that has expanded this understanding to include big picture social and political considerations. This broad context is critically important to the work of Trustee as we balance local needs and interests with issues of provincial accountability and governance.
As a Trustee you hold the golden egg of possibility.

Miller, Jaclyn
For School Trustee
I’m running for re-election as a qathet School Trustee because I believe deeply in our students, our schools, and the community I’ve called home while raising my two children.
My daughter is now attending UVic, and my son is graduating this year. For many years, I was an active PAC and District Parent Advisory Council member, advocating for students and families long before I ever sat around the Board table.
I was first elected as a trustee in 2021 and have served as Board Chair since 2023. I also bring 26 years of experience in child protection, including six years as a Team Leader. That work has shaped how I approach leadership, with empathy, accountability, collaboration, and a strong focus on the well-being of children and families.
During my time on the Board, we have completely revamped our policies, hired a new Superintendent, and maintained a strong financial position despite challenging economic conditions. I’m proud of the stability and progress we’ve built together.
But there is more work to do. I want to continue bringing thoughtful, responsible leadership to our Board and ensuring that the voices of students, families, staff, Indigenous partners, and our community are heard.
Above all, I believe every decision we make should start with one question: What is best

For School Trustee
I have worked in public schools for more that 30 years as a classroom teacher, learning support teacher/case manager, and literacy mentor. Additionally, I have worked in community and post-secondary programs as a coordinator and an instructor. With a strong background working with teams to provide opportunities for children and youth, I would bring to the role of School Trustee a combination of knowledge, experience, and dedication. Safe and caring schools that support all learners make our community stronger.

I am Dave Stirling and I am running for trustee because our students deserve good governance. I am currently a stay at home parent and have over 20 years experience with construction management.
I believe in ensuring value for our education budgeting dollars and tranparency to the parents, staff, indigenous communities and other education partners in all school board matters.
