In 2022, I entered the city council race with no political experience or awareness of how a municipality operates. The past 4 years have been a great learning experience in understanding municipal government. It probably takes at least 2 years for a new councillor to understand the the governmental process.
Over the past 4 years I've jumped into various roles in the community, serving as the treasurer on the boards for minor baseball, swim club, slo-pitch, and being involved with all levels of hockey. I've also served as the Council Rep for the library board, qathet Tourism and Sunshine Coast Tourism. I have used each of those opportunities to better understand how to serve this community.
I entered the election in 2022 with blinders and enthusiasm and wanting to make a difference. I'm running again in 2026 now more prepared for the role and aware of what is ahead.
We're at a critical time with our mill closing while our major infrastructure is 50+ years old and in need of repair or replacement. Parks and recreation facilities are in the same boat. I want to be a part of seeing it all happen. I want to see us work better with our neighbours at the Regional District and Tla'Amin to strengthen our community as a whole.

I was born and raised here, worked 33 years at the mill, and have spent more than 40 years volunteering and coaching in our community.
I’m retired now, with the time and energy to serve. I want to help put our finances on stronger footing, make our neighbourhoods safer and bring more respect to the way we work through difficult issues.

My name is Diana Collicutt and I am running as a candidate for City Council in the upcoming elections on October 17th. I grew up in the forest-based industry town of Prince George, moved to the Lower Mainland after high school and then to Powell River after graduating from UBC in the early 1990s. I am a long-term resident with a lot of knowledge and experience who knows the community and understands the issues at the forefront. With over 20 years of local government work in key City departments, experience in community land-use planning, municipal finance, non-profit housing administration and participation in community leadership roles, I am ready to serve the citizens of Powell River and govern for success to move this community forward over the next four years.
My key campaign priorities for action are fiscal responsibility to stabilize spending, ensuring economic resilience to create opportunities, supporting affordability, public safety and a healthy community, while building community trust, good working relations and improving government transparency. There is a lot of work to be done.

Re-Elect Cindy Elliott for City Council
Greetings and thank you for visiting and participating in our local elections. A big shout out to community members who show up and vote. I am proud to be from a community that cares and gets involved.
My core values are evidenced in the way I live my life and prioritize public service now, in the past, and moving forward. I have 5 children and 5 (with a 6th on the way) grandchildren all here in our local area. I am in favour of improving social services in our community while avoiding provincial downloading. Good governance is like a 3-legged stool, which includes decisions that are economically, environmentally, and socially responsible. Take any of those legs out and the stool falls over. The way we make those decisions is through a well-defined policy framework that is easily understood by all.
Strengthening teamwork within the community, Council and staff at the city needs to be a core theme. I would like to see formal ways to review our services' costs and benefits with reports, so people can participate in decisions about what services we continue, expand, or stop and understand these options. I would like scheduled public reports on city initiatives and core business, so they are easily understood and people know when to expect them.

I am running for Council as an independent because I care about the future of Powell River. My family has a long history here. My grandmother, Finola Fogarty, was an architect who designed Ocean View School and the museum. My grandfather, Billy, was a vet. My father Fred was a lifelong logger, and my mother Jayne taught dance from the National School of Ballet.
In my career, I worked for a large company with over 2,000 employees. My job was to act as a "translator" between the technical programmers and the creative artists so they could work together. I am very good at taking complicated information and making it easy for everyone to understand.
I want to do the same thing for our city. Sometimes, the reasons why the city makes certain decisions are confusing or hard to find. Because I live with a disability, I know how frustrating it is when information isn't accessible. I want to bridge the gap between the city government and the people who live here. I will use my experience to make sure that city information is clear, open, and fair for every resident.

My name is Darick Holler. I am deeply concerned about the current state and future of Powell River.
We are seeing open drug use, encampments in parks and public areas, and an increase in crime. This is causing a major public safety issue and stretching our ambulance, fire department and RCMP resources beyond their capacity. I believe city council needs to use the tools it has to protect public safety.
Our town should be thriving with economic development, not putting out fires. We have the opportunity to create jobs for young people, expand our tax base, support local businesses, support our industries, and encourage responsible economic development. I want to support the people who work hard in this community.
City Council should work for the people, which demands transparency and accountability. Taxes continue to increase, and we need to carefully examine city spending. The current and future council needs to ask if we are spending more than we can afford, what expenditures are truly necessary, can projects wait, and are taxpayers receiving good value for their money.
If elected, I am committed to standing for Powell River and making it a safe and thriving community.

Hi there, I’m Trina Isakson. I grew up in Salmon Arm, moved to Powell River in 2018, and care deeply about our community.
I was elected to City Council in 2022, and have had the honour of serving our community these past four years. My record on Council demonstrates that I followed through on pursuing the priorities I campaigned on in 2022: affordable housing, good relations with Tla’amin Nation, support for youth, and public engagement that works for more people.
Throughout this Council term, residents have expressed appreciation for my calm and thoughtful approach, my thorough preparation for meetings, my social media posts about issues before Council, and my curiosity and compassion.
I hope to work with a diverse Council that can be a collaborative team even in times of disagreement. This will help us take an intentional approach to economic development and taxation through mill site changes and other financial pressures.
Beyond Council, I currently manage daily operations at VIU tiwšɛmawtxʷ campus. I’m also a facilitator, helping community groups with strategic planning, implementing changes, or navigating conflict. I have an MBA in community economic development, and my interest in community well-being and public service has been a consistent theme in my life.

Powell River has been my home for over 20 years. I met my wife here, and together we've helped raise two wonderful children in this community. During that time, I spent 15 years as an auxiliary firefighter and 15 years as a power engineer at the mill. Today, I help design our local electrical distribution grid with BC Hydro.
Powell River has changed a lot over the past 20 years. Much of that has been positive growth, but in recent years things have gone off track, and our community just isn’t the same.
We face serious challenges involving the City’s budget, failing infrastructure, homelessness, substance abuse and crime. We also have untapped potential for economic growth that could help turn things around.
These challenges are not unique to Powell River. However, I believe they have become considerably worse here due in large part to poor decisions and inaction by our current Council.
Powell River needs councillors who will listen to residents and act in the community’s best interests. As a councillor, I pledge to be that ear and that voice, and to keep Powell River’s best interests in mind. Today and always.

I grew up in a small, close-knit community where responsibility and service shaped my early life. I began my career at 18 with the Royal Bank, building a strong foundation in finance, customer service, and leadership. After 23 years, I transitioned into entrepreneurship, running my own business and serving as Chair of the Boundary Country Chamber of Commerce.
PUBLIC SERVICE
Before moving to Powell River, I served on Grand Forks City Council, navigating complex community issues and difficult decisions. A major achievement during my tenure was the completion of the eight-year-flood-mitigation project, requiring sustained coordination among residents, staff, and multiple levels of government.

Since arriving in Powell River, I have continued my commitment to community service. I served two years as Vice-president of the Westview Ratepayers and organized the Powell River Block Watch Program. I currently chair Powell River Assist(Community Resource Network), and supports seniors experiencing abuse or neglect, and serves on the Westview Ratepayers Supportive Housing Sub-Committee.

Powell River is where I chose to build my life. I moved here six years ago, married my wife Shannon here this summer, and we cannot imagine building our family anywhere else.
I work in community outreach at Inclusion Powell River, supporting people with disabilities to take part in the life of this town. I serve on the board of the historic Patricia Theatre and volunteer with our local Rotary Club. My family helped design the Miklat Recovery Centre and raised most of the money to build it, so I know what it takes to get something real done here.
If elected, I will focus on keeping taxes affordable through careful, transparent budgeting. On a real solution to the addiction epidemic on our streets, starting with a women's recovery centre, because treatment is what works. On more long term care beds so seniors are not waiting months for a place and hospital beds stay free for those who need them. And on fair ferry service, because the ferry is not optional travel, it is how we reach medical appointments, work, and family.
Much of this means advocating hard to the Province, which costs taxpayers nothing.
Everything I have been part of here works because people pull in the same direction. That is what I want to bring to Council.

My wife and I chose Powell River as our home because we value the strong sense of community that comes with living in a smaller city. I am a lawyer, small business owner, educator, mediator, and active community volunteer.

Dustin Silvey is a researcher, leadership coach, management consultant, and former first responder with a PhD in Applied Health Sciences. His work has included community health, recreation, project planning, grant funding, and helping organizations turn ideas into practical results.

Running for Powell River City Council comes from a belief that public service begins with listening to the people you are elected to represent. With family roots in Powell River dating back to 1912, this community has been important to my family for generations.

I moved here with my family in 2013 and instantly fell in love with the community. Besides to obvious and spectacular natural beauty, the relative safety, lack of crime, compared to Vancouver where we moved from, and the affordability of living here, combined with the sense of community, made us feel we had made the right move. Unfortunately, since 2013 our city has undergone numerous of changes that are challenging the Powell River way of life that attracted me here.
My experience as a psychiatric nurse, working in mental health and addictions, and my experience working in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside is very relevant to issues we are facing here today. Working the last ten years in labour relations, my experience as a journalist, covering various municipal governments, my years spent lobbying local and provincial government officials as the president of a BC consumer advocacy group, my eight years experience the Powell River Library Board of Directors and my current position as a member of the Myrtle Point Golf Club Board of Directors are all relevant and give me the experience to meet the challenges of holding an elected City Councillor position and help make Powell River all that it can be. In the past 22 years I have attended in excess of 1,000 local government meetings. I have been paying attention for a long time.
I am an independent candidate with deep ties to Powell River, built through being on air at CHQB and CJMP, producing The Daily for Shaw Cable, deck-handing on the prawn boat Lora Jan, shake-blocking at Beartooth and Freil Lake, playing Billy Goat Smith for Sea Fair, writing for the fledgling Powell River Living, and working as a marine surveyor for the last 20 years — first as an apprentice, then on my own. Powell River touches me in a spiritual way.
I saw things change.
If elected, it is my intention to help council return to truly representing the citizens of Powell River — where your ideas can reach the public mic without fear of being shut down, and where observers can respectfully clap, moan, or cheer.
I will work toward a council that sticks to the basics: realistic spending goals, infrastructure maintenance and repair, and above all, public safety. That is exactly what a councillor should do upon taking office — meet every item with an open mind, seek the best solution for citizens, and step aside when a conflict of interest arises.
