Photo Contest Overview Form

Amateur photographers are invited to submit their best snapshots of the qathet region for use as the cover photo for the new Waste Wise App and the Waste Wise Guide online

Here is how the Waste Wise Photo Contest will work.

  1. Amateur photographers are invited to submit pictures on the theme of nature.

  2. Photos will be accepted until 4 pm on Friday, May 13. You will need to be registered with Participate Powell River. You have the opportunity of naming your photo and providing a description. At the end of the submission period, a panel of three judges will determine the winning photo.

  3. All eligible and completed submissions will be judged based on skill, creativity and alignment with the theme.

  4. The public will be invited to vote for their favourites until 4 pm on Friday, May 4. Registered members of participatepr.ca can place one vote for as many photos as they want in each of the five categories.

  5. Specifications:

    1. This application allows for thumbnails to be uploaded and easily viewed

    2. It ensures all photos are appropriate before they are posted

    3. It includes a voting function that makes it possible to involve the community in selecting the winners

    4. Photos that contain objectionable or inappropriate content will be removed at the discretion of the City

    5. Only digital photos will be accepted. Preferred file formats include .png or .jpeg

    6. Feature shots are landscape in orientation and are approximately 1270 x 800 pixels in size

    7. Preferred file size is 1MB for supporting shots and 3MB for the feature shots. All shots must be a minimum of 300 DPI

  6. The qathet Regional District and City of Powell River accept no responsibility for late or incomplete entries arising from technological issues, including those originating from the contestants’ systems, internet service providers’ systems, or the City’s systems.

  7. Photographers must have a signed release forms for all people identifiable in the photos.

  8. Photographers should be willing to waive their rights and allow the qathet Regional District and the City of Powell River the right to scale, crop or alter the color of the image as required.

  9. Photographers under the age of 18 must have a release signed by a parent or legal guardian to participate.

  11. Photographers whose photos are selected as feature shots for use will receive a photo credit. All photographers whose work is chosen will have the ability to use their published pages as an illustrative example of their work on their personal websites or portfolios.

  12. Contest participants hereby consent to the collection of personal pursuant to section 26 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act for the purpose of enabling members of the public to submit photo contest entries and have those photos disclosed publicly as part of qathet Regional District and the City of Powell River promotional campaigns. Any and all personal information as well as all content of all feedback will become part of the public record and is subject to disclosure including but not limited to the following actions: Published on the City of Powell River website, published on the qathet Regional District website, published on the Let's Talk Trash website, and published or printed as part of promotional campaigns for qathet Regional District and the City of Powell River.
