Deadline extended to Apply for Community Finance Advisory Committee

The City of Powell River has opened the application process to city residents, property owners and business owners who are interested in participating on the City of Powell River Community Finance Advisory Committee.

The Committee’s mandate is to:

  • Undertake a review of the city’s financial health and stability and provide recommendations on how to achieve long-term financial resiliency in the areas of expenses, revenue, and reserves, as contained in the terms of reference

  • Recommend alignment of city services with what residents and property owners are willing to pay for

  • Recommend financial strategies and guiding principles

  • Consult broadly with city residents and property owners, ensuring there is a diversity of opportunities for input and feedback

The committee is not a decision-making body. Its role is to provide advice and make recommendations to council. The committee will be made up of members of the public, so that collectively there is balanced, diverse and inclusive representation.

Before applying, individuals must read the Terms of Reference for the Community Finance Advisory Committee and be prepared to commit the time and effort necessary for the committee to complete its work by the end of May 2021.

The committee will be comprised of a variety of ages, genders and socio-economic backgrounds; from different neighbourhoods throughout the City; longer-term residents and newer to the City; local sports, recreation, culture and arts communities; community-based non-profit organizations and volunteers; different property tax classes, such as residential and commercial; environmental, health, education, agriculture, hospitality, forestry and retail sectors; and professionals with business, financial or accounting acumen and expertise.
